Like many, the Senior Center struggled to stay open during Covid lockdown when they were unable to host fundraisers. Holcomb described it as “a huge fundraiser for us.” They are also bringing back the funding raffle, which features big prizes donated from local businesses. The evening will feature a live and silent auction with proceeds going to the Senior Center. This year, food will not be served but participants are encouraged to bring their own. They have partnered up with Emandal Farm for Cowboy Poetry, which is scheduled for July 16.
The Chili Cook-Off isn’t the only upcoming event the Senior Center is planning.

Full tables are available for $100 and half tables for $50. Awards will be given for best chili and best decorated table. Individuals participating should cook about two gallons, or a Crock Pot worth of chili and bring it to the park the day of the event. Those interested in competing can contact Holcomb or Senior Center Executive Director Richard Baker. Registration for contestants is currently open through Aug. She described the Chili Cook Off as a significant fundraiser for the center. She said, “We haven’t had hardly any fundraisers over the past two years, which hurts the Senior Center because we rely on money coming in from different areas.” Monies generated from fundraisers are used for outreach, transportation and Meals on Wheels, all vital programs for older residents. 19.Īdministrative Coordinator Deb Holcomb explained they moved the cook off outdoors this year to reduce risk of Covid exposure. After years without fundraising due to the global pandemic, the Willits Harrah Senior Center is getting back into the swing of things and is planning their traditional Chili Cook Off, set to occur at Recreation Grove Park in Willits on Aug.
